It started on a bet; one of my friends said, “Girl, this stylist is so good and precise with her styles and cuts that I will pay for you to get your hair done”. Call me crazy, I could not turn down a free hairstyle and cut. I was sold after Sophia finished with my hair. Upon, meeting Sophia, she had also, made me feel comfortable as well – she is a professional who cares about her clients. However, I don’t feel like a client; when I visit with Sophia, she knows what I like and what my hair needs. She even knows when I am a little moody. Sophia is like getting your hair done by your mother except there is no pulling of the hair (ha-ha). Seriously, it has and is a pleasure for Sophia to continuously style and cut my hair fiercely for as long as she continues to do hair. C. Rawson Before I first came to Sophia for a consultation in November, 2009, the condition of my hair was awful! Every inch of my scalp was covered in white flakes--my scalp was extremely dry and flaky. My hair was shedding, breaking, and I was almost six months overdue for a relaxer. I waited a long time to get a relaxer because I was tired of the burning and soreness of my scalp when I went to the dominican salons around my way. I was extremely frustrated with my hair, and I did not know what to do; I was just about ready to cut off all of my hair. Basically, my hair was a complete mess, and I was depressed. One night, I sat in front of my laptop and searched for good hair salons for BLACK hair care. After a while of searching, I came across Sophia's website, and I was very impressed with its layout and detail. So, I made an appointment immediately for a consultation. Since then, I have never let anyone else near my head. Now, almost five months later, my scalp is clean and healthy. I no longer have ANY shedding or breakage, and, best of all, my hair is GROWING! My hair is thick, shiny, bouncy, and strong. It has been many years since my hair has felt this good. I still can't believe that Sophia was able to rejuvenate my lifeless and damaged hair. Sophia has been taking EXCELLENT care of my hair, and she has a client for LIFE! She is patient, easy to talk to, very professional, very understanding, and very intelligent. She respects all of her clients, and I have never felt rushed or overlooked when I am under Sophia's care. I have given her full control of my hair because I trust her completely--anybody who could bring my depressing hair back to life has earned my trust and respect! If you could have seen the condition of my hair before I came under Sophia's care, then you would understand the depth of my gratitude towards her. All I know is that I am one SATISFIED client!! I just got my color and cut done and I am soooooooo in love with myself. I feel new, like I just came out of a gift box. The color is perfect, texture of my hair is super soft and the cut makes me look fantastical. I strongly recommend anyone with any type of hair to see her. She is first and foremost, a PROFESSIONAL hairstylist. I can't stress that enough--don't let the fact that she's young fool you--she knows what she's doing. She's innovative and versatile in terms of coming up with solutions to any hair care concerns and/or problems, but most of all, she is honest about what can and cannot be done with your hair type, length and thickness. I trust Sophia's judgment immensely. She's good at everything she does--sometimes you get a stylist who can relax, but can't cut or color. She does EVERYTHING very, very well. She's attentive, listens to what you want done, and accomplishes it to perfection. Another thing I love about Sophia is that she's one of few stylists who will recommend products for you to maintain your 'do at home---she understands times are tough, and she doesn't make you feel guilty for not coming in every week for maintenance. She is always reachable by phone if you have any at-home questions. She's a homegirl, and an ACE at all things hair-related. She 's warm, friendly, and will be my stylist for many years to come!!!!! I get so many compliments on a weekly basis after getting my hair cut or sytled by Sophia. Sophia has been doing my cuts for over a year and she is absolutely wonderful. She always gives me a cut that works for my face and is great at styling my hair the way I like. Latoya Woods HI, I'm a young Black woman who was in search of a very good stylist in the city. I searched high and low and was getting very frustrated. I had been natural for a year and wanted to get a relaxer and a good cut. I stumbled upon this place by accident although it was not a big mistake. I called a lot of places looking for a place that AT LEAST had one person that specialized in "ETHNIC HAIR", all places said no. But this place told me they did and to come in for a consultation, which I did. SOFIA IS THE BOMB, she is so sweet and nice and very good at what she does. She is great. I am very tender headed and she was able to work a relaxer in without it stinging like all hell. She gave me a great cut (without taking all my hair off)and gave me a list of products to use to maintain my hair. I have finally found a professional place that will continue to go to. My colorist, Sofia, knew exactly what I wanted and worked her magic to make sure my hair came out the color I asked for. I have been looking for that 'perfect' auburn color for MONTHS and somehow she managed to find it in the space of a couple hours. My hair feels wonderful and soft after getting a deep conditioner she reccomended for color treated hair. The blowdry was so bouncy. It is nearly impossible to find a good salon in nyc, for some strange reason. All in all, the entire time I was there i had an amazing time and will definitely be making this my regular place. They provide great service. this salon is truly a gem. i HIGHLY recommend it!!! I could not be happier from making a same day appointment, to getting a burn-free relaxer by Sohia, the experience made my day. I didn't have the words yet. Feb 29th 2008 I got married in 2008 to the love of my life and I went to this stylist named Sophia to get my hair done. I was so nervous because I have multi-textured hair and I'm nervous when it comes to styling. I also have ecezema and have to very careful when it come to chemical treatments. I'm so picky when comes to my hair and I have gone through so many hair stylist. I had one good hair stylist and I cried when she left 10 years ago. Sophia has taken her place. I have a new stylist, It was a wedding miracle. She is sweet. funny, professional and a perfectionist. She worked so hard on my hair from relaxing to weaving.
